Chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Davies Ikanya has charged the executives of the party at the local government and ward levels to carrying out the duties expected of them with all sense of responsibility.
Speaking in Bori, Khana Local Government Area on Wednesday, during a sensitization and interactive session with LGA, ward and unit officials of the party, Chief Ikanya said the visit was intended to asses first hand, the state of the party at the grassroots, stating that the gathering was a family meeting and not a rally, hence discussions will be focused on entirely party issues and elections and other matters.
“This is a meeting of party executives in the LGA, wards and representatives of the party in the units”
Chief Ikanya praised members of the APC in Khana who inspite of being in the opposition have remained steadfast.
“We have not heard of defectors in Khana APC, rather we hear of people leaving other parties to join us”.
He enjoined exco members to continually open the door allow new members come in.
Chief Ikanya told the grassroot leaders that since the 2019 elections are closer than before, part of the reason for the sensitization was to raise the morale of party officers for the work ahead.
“if you are a party secretary, do not slack in your work. If you are a chairman, do not slack in your work”, he said.
“you must take charge of the party in your own domain “.
Also, the state party chairman of the APC told the party officials in Khana to be tolerant of small group yet remain non section in dealing with party issues. He said small groups and NGOs within the party are supposed to help strengthen the party and not the other way round.
Earlier, the Chairman of the APC in Khana, Mr Eric Nwibani had assured the state chairman and members of his exco that the party was intact in Khana . Several LGA and ward officials of the party who braved the heavy downpour to attend the occassion were given opportunities to ask questions. The state chairman took out time to respond to their questions and queries before returning to Port Harcourt.
