The Chief Medical Director of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Professor Henry Ugboma has said the people of Rivers state have realized that voting the Peoples Democratic Party into power was a mistake.
Professor Ugboma made this statement on Saturday in Ndoni District of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area while receiving hundreds of non-indigenes who defected from the PDP to the APC.
He said “the people have tasted what PDP is doing to the state: no development, people are not involved- they are running the state like a one man show”
“People are disgruntled, they are not happy, they want a change and that is what you are seeing”
“the decampees that are joining the party everyday are not just in ONELGA but all over the state”
Speaking at the reception organized in their honour, the new APC members who spoke through their leaders expressed satisfaction with the leadership of the Minister for Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and Professor Ugboma and pledged their loyalty to the APC.
“We are here to join hands with APC to support peace in ONELGA and Rivers state. We hereby from this moment declare our support for the APC and we are willing to work for the victory of the APC in 2019”, they said.
“we are ready because when you see how things are going, you go to the winning side and we have discovered that APC is now winning side and we want to walk with you under this forum”
On his part the chairman of the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government chapter of the All Progressives Congress, Elder Felix Okoro Ejeje assured the new members of equal opportunities and advised them to ensure they register and collect their Permanent Voters Card.
The decampees called on the leaders of the APC to prevail on INEC to release their voters card. The Secretary of the Hausa community in the area, Shuaibu Mohammed said that though they had registered and ready to collect their PVCs, INEC were not ready to release the cards to them.
He said, “We hereby from today declare our membership for the APC in Ndoni district and plead with the APC leaders to assist us in getting our PVCs from INEC in Ndoni as they (INEC) have refused to release the PVCs to our members that have registered.”
