Weeks after security agents gunned down Igwedibia Johnson a.k.a Don Wanny, and several top ranking members of his dreaded gang said to have terrorized Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area and other parts of Rivers state with cult activities, kidnapping, rituals and mass murderers and several other heinous crimes, a high court in Port Harcourt has ordered the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Felix Obuah to honour an invitation by the Rivers state police command in respect to killings in the state before, during and after the 2015 elelctions.
The All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state had petitioned the police over the killings recorded in ONELGA in 2015, accusing the state chairman of PDP, of gun-running and sponsoring the ONELGA killings. However, the state police command had invited all those mentioned in the petition, but the PDP Chairman challenged his invitation in court, accusing former Governor Chibuike Amaechi of political witch-hunt.
After over three years of hearing on the suit, the trial judge, Justice Adolphus Enebeli dismissed the application of the PDP Chairman as lacking in merit. Justice Enebeli held that the police has the right within the law to invite any individual for questioning on any report of crime and asked the applicant to do same. The Judge said mere invitation by the Police does not in any way amount to a breach of fundamental rights.
Speaking with newsmen Counsel to the APC in Rivers State, Emenike Ebete told newsmen that the Police can now effect arrest on the Rivers State PDP Chairman if he failed to honour their invitation.
“Sometimes in 2016 the Police invited Obuah for questioning over the killings before, during and after the 2015 General elections in ONELGA.
“On receiving the letter of invitation he ran to the Rivers State High Court to get an order of injunction retraining the Police from investigating the allegations in the letter.
“We have been on this matter since 2016 and the court has said he should honour the Police invitation. If he fails to honour the invitation the Police can use whatever means to get him into their custody for questioning,” he said.
On his part, Frank Ohiri who represented the Attorney General of Rivers State, Emma Aguma, SAN, refused to make comment on the court’s verdict.
Other respondents in the matter filed by Felix Obuah include the Inspector General of Police, Rivers State Commissioner of Police and Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi who he accused of instigating the Police against him.
Recall that the APC had repeatedly bemoaned the politically motivated killings of its members in ONELGA one. On 3rd of April 2015 unknown gunmen had stormed the house of Chief Christopher Nwalinsor , a chieftain of the APC located at No.9 Ossah Street in Obirikom, Ogba/Egbema/ Ndoni Local government of Rivers State with an intention to exterminate the entire family of Chief Adube and would have had a hundred per cent success if all almost succeeded, if all of Adube’s children were at home during the attack. Though the attackers remain officially unknown, the grief stricken Widow of the slain politician and community leader, Madam Adube speaking to journalists in April, 2015 at Omoku accused the Chairman of the PDP in the state, Felix Obuah of ordering the murder of her husband
Narrating the ugly incidence, she said: “Around 7 pm, I was discussing with my husband in the parlour when some people came into the house. I don’t know any of them. They came straight to my husband and said ‘I think dem don tell you sey make you commot for APC enta PDP you refuse. Na Go Round send us to come find you’. ”
“On hearing Go Round, my husband tried to run then they started shooting him. This allegation has been roundly denied by several leaders of the PDP in Rivers state.
While the party was still trying to recover from the alleged massacre of its members in the 2015 elections, armed assailants invaded the home of Mr Frankline Obi, the ward 4 chairman of the APC in his home at Usomini quarters in Omoku on the 6th of March, 2016, killing him before cutting off his head. The attackers also murdered his wife, Ihuoma and his 18-year-old first son, Bestman. The killing of Christopher occurred about 48 hours after another APC member, Mr. Ipalibo Black-Duke was shot dead and his body carried away by the assailants in Abonnema, Akuku- Toru Local Government area of the state.
The Chairman of the Rivers state chapter of the PDP, Bro Felix Obuah is from Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of Rivers state.
