What was supposed to be a solemn gathering almost turned into a political rally as the arrival of Dr Dakuku Peterside to Abonnema for the burial ceremony of late Madam Irene Ine I.S. Danagogo, Mother of renowned businessman, politician and PDP governorship aspirant in the 2015 governorship elections, Barr Dumo Lulu Briggs electrified the crowd of mourners who on sighting him swam in droves towards him shouting Dakuku Dakuku!! My Governor My Governor!!!
This is not the first time that supporters would almost mob Dr Dakuku at public functions in Rivers state in recent weeks. Dr Dakuku, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress who is currently battling at the Rivers state Elections Petitions Tribunal where he is seeking to have the 2015 governorship elections annulled due to what he and his party, have described as a sham in the name of elections, has maintained public visibility since after the May 11 governorship elections. The overwhelming support Dakuku has continued to enjoy around the state may be an indication that his popularity rating was not affected by the outcome of the March 11 elections.
Other dignitaries who were present to pay last respects to late madam Irene were Timipri Sylva, former governor of Bayelsa state and Felix Obuah, state chairman of the PDP in Rivers state.
