The federal government has made a u turn on the earlier pronouncement which directed t all private and public schools in the country to remain closed till October 13 following the outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus disease in Nigeria.

Arising from a meeting between the Minister of Education and the state commissioners for education in Abuja, the Minister for Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau instructed that all schools be reopened on the twenty second of September, rather than the earlier announced date.

The minister said the decision to reopen schools was reached  after a assesment  showed that much has been achieved in the effort to contain the EVD. The statement added that the ministries of education of the various states are expected to train two staff in each school on how to handle any suspected case of EVD as well as continue the sensitization of all teaching and non teaching staff on preventive measures.
