If in your next visit to Dubai, the door of the taxi you flagged down opens and you find an empty car don’t get horrified, you have just stepped into the world of autonomous automobiles!
The Vice President and Prime Minister of United Arab Emirate (UAE) and Emir of Dubai has revealed that a “Dubai Autonomous Transportation Strategy has been launched and is aimed at ensuring that 25% of all trips in Dubai will be driverless by 2030.
According to His Highness Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum “the strategy will help increase traffic efficiency, productivity, reduce traffic congestions and pollution and save millions of driving hours.”
“we’ve also launched the Autonomous Transportation Challenge, the world’s biggest RFP to global R&D centres to apply this technology in Dubai” the Emir posted on his LinkedIn account.
The Dubai Future Foundation created a short video titled “Dubai’s First Driverless Car Experience” to unveil the autonomous transportation project which is expected to reduce transportation cost by 44%, saving $6billion annually in accidents, lost productivity and pollution.
