All You Need To Know About FG’s Homegrown School Feeding Programme (HGSFP)

The Homegrown School Feeding Programme (HGSFP) is one of the 4 components of our 500 billion naira Social Investment Programme.

The HGSFP provides one hot meal daily to public primary school children across the country. At full scale the HGSFP will benefit 24 million school children. This year we intend to cover 5.5 million.

The cooks for the HGSFP are recruited from communities where the schools are located, & then verified and trained.

The HGSFP will

– Boost school enrollment/attendance
– Improve nutrition and health
– Improve academic performance
– Stimulate local economies
– Create jobs

The HGSFP cooks are paid directly by the FG. As at Jan 22, 2017, N375m had been paid to 7,909 cooks in 5 States, for 677, 476 pupils.

The 5 kick-off States for the HGSFP are Anambra, Ogun, Oyo, Osun and Ebonyi. Zamfara and Enugu are to follow. Those 7 initial states will in total account for more than 1 million pupils—the first set of beneficiaries of our Homegrown School Feeding Programme.
