The primaries of the All Progressives Congress which were initially billed for kickoff today has been rescheduled with that of the President holding on September 25 and followed thereafter by the governorship primaries which has been fixed on the 29th of September.
The new dates are in line with the reviewed the timetable for the conduct of the party’s 2018 primary elections which has been approved by the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress.
An earlier timetable had slated the presidential primaries for September 20, with September 22 fixed for appeals that may arise from the conduct of the presidential primaries. September 25 was fixed for governorship primaries, while September 26 to 27 were fixed for the hearing of appeals that may arise from the conduct. September 28 to 30 was fixed for the hearing of appeals that may arise from all legislative primaries, and the national convention was to hold on October 6 to ratify the party’s candidate for the 2019 presidential election.
According to a statement signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Emma Ibediro, in Abuja, on Wednesday “The National Working Committee has approved the review of the timetable for the conduct of the 2018 primary elections as follows”:
“25th September, 2018 – presidential primary election; 29th September, 2018 – governorship primary election; 2nd October, 2018 – Senate primary elections; 3rd October, 2018 – House of Representatives primary elections; 4th October, 2018 – State House of Assembly primary elections; 6th October, 2018 – National Convention (Presidential).”
Also, the screening exercise for aspirants seeking the party’s ticket for the office of the President, governors, Senate and House of Representatives has been rescheduled to begin today, Thursday.
For the screening exercise, Presidential, governorship and National Assembly aspirants are to be screened in Abuja, while those for state Assemblies will be screened at the state level. A document circulated by the party about how the screening would be done read in part, “Screening will commence on Thursday 20th September 2018 and ends on Saturday, 22nd September 2018, starting from 9 am each day.
“There shall be for each zone three committees for the screening of aspirants for governor, Senate and House of Representatives.
“Transcorp Hilton and Sheraton Hotel Abuja have been selected for the purposes of the screening exercise.”
